Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy in Cumbria

Counselling and Psychotherapy are interchangable terms that describe very similar approaches to therapy. Both are 'talking' therapies that offer clients the opportunity to explore and express their feelings and concerns in a safe, nurturing environment.

Counselling is often a short term intervention that focuses on specific issues. Sessions stay mainly within the here and now with clients being taught methods of dealing with current issues.

Psychotherapy is more in-depth and often has a longer duration than counselling. Instead of focusing on specific, current issues, psychotherapy looks at patterns of behaviour and recurrent themes. Time is spent exploring the past and considering its impact on the present. The aim is to identify and explore underlying issues in order to recognise damaging patterns of behaviour and thinking.
