Therapy in Cumbria

Kris Williams

(MA; DipCouns; DipHP(NC); DipDT; PGDip Play Therapy; Reg. MBACP

Whilst living in Liverpool, I gained qualifications in various therapies including Counselling and Hypnotherapy, and opened an holistic therapy centre. I have a certificate in Adult & Further Education and deliver a variety of personal development and training workshops and seminars throughout the North West. I have taught Counselling for community groups and colleges, and have led several residential personal development weekends for adults with mental health issues.

When I moved to the Lake District, I became lead therapist and supervisor with a crisis intervention organisation, working with looked-after teenagers with severe emotional and behavioural issues. Whilst there, I qualified as an Equine Assisted Psychotherapist and, as well as offering EAP to the young people referred to us, I also provided Adventure Therapy for them and their families.

One of my most successful and popular workshops is based on identifying and working with Core Beliefs, or Neural networks, something I now incorporate into my therapeutic practice and which forms the basis of my book , Who's the Boss of You?.

Until 2014, I was employed as a support worker for young carers. During this time, I gained an MA module in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, and certificates in working with Self-harm and Suicide. I also designed and delivered staff training in OCD Awareness and Supporting Bereaved Carers.

From 2013 to 2017, I worked as a therapist and assessor with the charity, SAFA (Self-harming Awareness for All), providing therapy and support to people of all ages. I also delivered their training for professionals on Self-Harm and Suicide Alertness.

In 2018 I qualified as a Play Therapist and now work from my private practice in Heysham.
